Investment Visa Indonesia

Investment visa Indonesia (E28A) is a long-term residence permit (KITAS) for foreigners who want to start and manage a business in Indonesia. This visa allows you to stay in Bali legally while owning shares and holding a director or commissioner role in a local company (PT PMA). With investment visa Indonesia, you can stay for up to 2 years with multiple entry access.

Compared to a regular visa, the E28A Investor KITAS offers significant advantages — such as the ability to register a vehicle, open a personal bank account, and access local discounts in tourist spots and certain government institutions. If you plan to launch a business and live in Bali, Investment visa Indonesia is the most efficient and legal way to achieve it.

How to Get investment KITAS E28A

To get Investor KITAS in Bali, you need to apply minimum 5 working days before arriving in Indonesia.

To get investment KITAS E28A, you first need to establish or join a PT PMA — a foreign-owned company registered in Indonesia. Once the company is set up and your name is listed as a director or commissioner, you can apply for the KITAS. Required documents include your passport, company registration papers, proof of shareholding, and a photo. The process usually takes 7–14 business days (or faster with express service). In Bali Connect, we handle everything — from company setup to final KITAS approval — ensuring your investment KITAS E28A (Bali investor visa) will be issued smoothly so you can focus on building your business in Bali.

Who Can Apply for Investor KITAS

Investor KITAS is designed for foreign nationals who invest in an Indonesian company (PT PMA) and hold a formal position as a director or commissioner. To apply, you must own a minimum number of shares in the company — typically at least IDR 10 billion (around USD 650,000) in authorized capital, with your personal shareholding meeting the official threshold. This permit, often referred to as the investor KITAS, is ideal for those who want to live in Bali long-term and actively manage or supervise a business legally.

What you can do with Visa E28A?

Bali investor visa allows foreign nationals to legally reside in Indonesia while engaging in business, investment, and company establishment. With this visa, you can act as a member of the board of directors or commissioners in the company where you invest and bring eligible family members to join you. It also permits you to study in Indonesia if properly registered, travel freely in and out of the country during its validity, and combine business with tourism or family visits. Bali investor visa is therefore the most efficient path for long-term residency in Bali through investment.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions?

Indonesia residency by investment is usually granted for 2 years, depending on the application and the guarantor company’s status. At the end of this period, it can be renewed as long as you still meet the requirements, including maintaining share ownership in the PT PMA. Renewals do not require leaving Indonesia — the entire process can be completed locally. Holding an Investor KITAS also allows you to travel in and out of Indonesia freely during its validity, thanks to the Multiple Exit Re-entry Permit (MERP).

Holders of Indonesia investment KITAS may be appointed as directors or commissioners of their PT PMA company. However, this status does not grant the right to carry out day-to-day work or participate directly in the company’s business operations. Their role is limited to making strategic decisions, supervising management, and representing the company at the corporate level. Any operational or labor activity requires a separate work permit. Engaging in tasks outside the permitted scope may result in fines, cancellation of the KITAS, or deportation.

Yes. Your spouse and children can apply for a dependent KITAS (spouse KITAS or family KITAS) linked to your Bali investment visa. This allows them to legally reside in Indonesia for the same duration as your permit. While dependents cannot work under this visa, they can study or enjoy long-term stay in Bali or other parts of Indonesia.

Not necessarily. In many cases, to change your status to Indonesia investment visa you need to leave Indonesia and re-enter on the correct visa. However, if you are currently in Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival (VOA), you may apply for a bridging visa instead. The bridging visa is valid for 60 days and allows you to complete the Investor KITAS process without leaving the country.

If you end your participation in the company, you must close your Indonesia investment visa through an Exit Permit Only (EPO) and leave Indonesia. This rule applies even if you plan to return on another visa. Only after the EPO process is completed can you apply for a new visa and re-enter the country legally.
